February 2012 Forecast

 

I’ve been asked to write something about the republican presidential candidates. I will analyze Gingrich first because I don’t think he will be around too long.  And that opinion is not based on the fact that I don’t like the guy, but it’s because he has a “loose cannon” aspect and will probably shoot himself in the foot on the way to the election.

Let me explain: Newt has Mercury in Gemini in the 3^rd house.  Since Mercury is ruled by Gemini and Gemini rules the 3^rd house that means he has a triple Mercury.  I have Mercury in Gemini, not in the 3^rd, and I know what a space cadet I can be at times. A strong Gemini makes for a great debater, but his Mercury is on his Uranus in the third house again.  This is the”verbal loose cannon” aspect. Mercury rules our speech and Uranus refuses to stay in bounds, loves to contradict everyone and to sparkle and dash all over the place. 

He also has Sun in Gemini, the Moon in Sagittarius and Aquarius Rising.  Gemini is searching for variety, Aquarius is searching for the unusual and Sagittarius just wants to get out of town.  Not a very stable chart.  But this chart is kinda fun to be around, but not a great resume for the job he is applying for.

Dates to Watch:

Feb 1 – Venus Opposite Mars.  Conflict with a loved one.  You could go your separate ways on this one, but maybe that’s a good thing.

Feb 3 – Neptune Enters Pisces until 2026.  We all need to learn to be more idealistic since we have been through the wringer lately.  This will be a great time for movie making.  Neptune was discovered at the same time the prototypes for cinema were being invented. Watch for an explosion of great cinema, music and the arts during this time.   If you have Pisces and Neptune prominent in your natal chart you could become a victim of a vampire during this time.  Read my vampire article here

Feb 7 – Full Moon at 18 Leo/Aquarius.  A time to shine.  What you wished for on the New Moon on Jan 23 can be brought to fruition now.

            Saturn turns retrograde at 29 Libra and stays retrograde until Jun 25, 2012.  Now is a time to confront the obstacles in your life.  No more hiding under the covers.  Deal with your responsibilities.

            Sun Conjunct Mercury.  Some new information comes to light.  A good day to connect with others and network.

Feb 8 – Venus enters Aries until March 5, 2012.  Just in time for Valentines day!  The planet of love moves into the aggressive planet of Aries.  Everyone is feeling kinda frisky.

Feb 9 – Venus Conjunct Uranus.   You could fall in or out of love on this one, or you could have sudden creative inspirations.  This is great if you are an artist or musician.

Feb 14 – Mercury Conjunct Neptune.  A good time to start a course on spiritual subjects.  Or you could end up contacting your dead grandmother.  Or you could take a trip to the beach.  It’s your choice.  It is Valentine’s Day so you may end up doing a lot of mushy talk with your loved one.

Feb 15 – Venus Square Pluto.  You are too harsh in your judgment of others today. They may try to manipulate or coerce you into being or doing something that isn’t you.

Feb 18 – Sun Trine Saturn.  This is a good day for dealing with elders, parents or those in authority.

Feb 19 – Sun enters Pisces until March 20, 2012. This is the time when we will really feel the Neptune in Pisces that came in on Feb 3.  Express the best of Pisces in music and the arts, the worst of Pisces is self-pity.  Let’s not have a pity party during this month.

            Sun Conjunct Neptune.  Another spiritual aspect.  A good time to start channeling your spirit guides. 

Feb 21 – New Moon at 2 Pisces.  This is another aspect that reinforces Neptune and the Sun entering Pisces.  This influence last one month and this is the beginning of the month.  A very good time to meditate and send out positive vibrations for peace.

Feb 23 – Mercury Opposite Mars.  You can really spit it out when you get angry.  Where did you get that sharp tongue?  Problem is others are also ready for a fight.

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS 

JUPITER is in Taurus until June 11, 2012 this month and will move from 2  to 6 degrees. Now is the time to move ahead with our optimistic plans for the future, especially if you have the ascendant, Sun or Moon between 2 and 6 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio.

SATURN is in Libra (structure, foundation, and responsibility) until Oct 2012. This month Saturn turns retrograde on Feb 7 and stays at to 29 degrees of Libra all month.    If you have the Ascendant or any personal planets at 29 degrees of Libra in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. Libra rules relationships of all kinds and Saturn may ask you to take on more responsibility for how your relationships work. 

URANUS is in Aries and will stay in Aries until 2018.  This month Uranus is moving from 1 to 3 degrees of Aries.  Wanting freedom and a need to make radical changes will be felt by those with the Ascendant, Sun and personal planets at 1 or 3 degree of Aries or Libra.  I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”.  If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go on a long vacation, move, or make some major changes in your life.
 
NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) will enter Pisces this month on Feb 3 and will stay in Pisces until 2026. Neptune moves from 29 degrees of Auaris to 0 degrees of Pisces. A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 29 degrees of Aquarius or 0 degrees of Piscens.  For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights. 

PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023.  This month Pluto will move from 8 to 9 degrees of Capricorn. Everyone is feeling the urge to purge and to find his or her truth.  Profound changes will be felt especially by those with Sun, Ascendant or personal planets at 8 or 9 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer.

A Myth for Aquarius

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS AQUARIUS (Jan 20 – Feb 19) 

In my experience, all Aquarians are wacky in some way or in some part of their life.  When you meet them it’s important to figure out where their strangeness resides so that you are not so surprised further on in your relationship. 

They care more about being honest than about being liked.  They can become delightful companions if you don’t mind being hit with cold, brutal truths about yourself. 

They not only represent the archetype of the kid who said “the emperor has not clothes”, but also the archetype of Chicken Little proclaiming the “sky is falling”.  They can see the future, so if you hear an Aquarian say something like that, run for cover.  

Aquarius rules the internet and free speech, so the uproar over proposed federal legislation to censor the internet represents how Aquarians personally feel about being stifled and not allowed to express their ideas freely.  Aquarians believe in equality so the Occupiers are also demonstrating an Aquarian spirit. 

Aquarians love to make waves, which sometimes lead to positive changes in the world.  Some do it in a private way through their art like Jackson Pollock, Lewis Carroll or James Joyce and some seem to shout it out to the world like Oprah Winfrey, Germaine Greer, Betty Friedan, Rosa Parks, Gertrude Stein, Alice Cooper and Gypsy Rose Lee.  We could probably survive without Aquarians, but this would be a much more boring place with all of us muddling along in our old ruts and routines with our outmoded cultural values.

Aquarius Traits: Aquarians have noble impulses and believe in mankind’s spiritual potential. They are reformers who rebel against the traditional way of doing things.  Instead, they act on their own deeply felt beliefs. Aquarians won’t believe in or answer to a higher power.  Aquarians can bring their higher ideals and knowledge down to a level that everyone can use, but they are often outcasts, feeling alienated.  When Aquarians combine their cerebral energy with ambition and a goal, they are set free.

2012 - Crises and Opportunity

From an astrological perspective, it is not too difficult to know what the nature of events will be in 2012.  We have seen that certain kinds of changes were going to come; now we see the results. In the year 2012 we will be in the pivotal point of this  change brought to us by the Uranus/Pluto square* in Cardinal Signs**  The square will be exact 7 times from Jun 24, 2012, to March 2015.                                     

    This is the most important and longest astrological aspect this year, and in fact the most significant influence since Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in the 1960′s. The last time Uranus was square Pluto was during the Great Depression of the 1930′s. We may be facing another depression equal to the 30’s.

     Uranus square Pluto also brings intense revolutions and rebellion against dictatorship.  This started last year when we saw dictators fall, but the vacuum created also brings the chance of even more extreme or religious regimes taking control amid the chaos. Remember the last series of squares was in the early 1930′s when Hitler consolidated his power at the climax of this aspect. 

    To understand Uranus/Pluto energy we look back to the 1960’s when these two planets were conjoined.   This is the first square since that time.  Whatever was started in the 60’s now needs to be expanded and expressed in new ways.  A waxing square can create lasting change. 

    Uranus and Pluto only form a conjunction once every 125 years and when they do it means the start of a new age.  The conjunction was exact in 1965 and 1966, but they were within 10 degrees of each other throughout the sixties.  In astrology the conjunction is the vision, the first square is manifesting the vision. How do we now implement the ideas we had in the 1960’s? 

    This year Uranus ruling sudden, unexpected shocking changes is in a tense square to Pluto which rules deep transformation.  Also, Pluto loves to expose the shadow side of those in Power.  We can expect a massive overhaul of our political, economic and social systems plus more corruption exposed. 

    Let us analyze this square and look at each of the two planets and what they bring to this dynamic aspect—the square. 

Pluto: 

    Pluto represents destruction and Capricorn the material world.  Pluto transforms and regenerates.  Pluto can shake our foundations creating chaos.   He will destroy the old power structures.  

    The square started to coalesce in 2008 when Pluto went into Capricorn.  Pluto is the planet of death and rebirth, think of Kali, the dark mother, cutting off heads.  Capricorn represents the economy, the government, the large corporations, all of our established institutions and structures.  Pluto will stay in Capricorn until 2020 and I expect it will take that long for our economic system to be destroyed and rebuilt. 

    Several economists said that 2008 was the year economic growth stopped and more importantly that our planet can’t support much more development. Karl Marx, John Stuart Mill and John Maynard Keynes, all said that capitalism has an end date, it can’t go on forever.

    Thomas Friedman in the New York Times in March 2009 said, “What if the crisis of 2008 represents something much more fundamental than a deep recession?  What if it’s telling us that the whole growth model we created over the last 50 years is simply unsustainable economically and ecologically and that 2008 was when we hit the wall – when Mother Nature and the market both said: “No more.” 

    Friedman really nailed it by picking 2008.  Maybe he is a covert astrologer. I think we are facing enormous crises because of unsustainable economic growth, not to mention climate change.  However, the news is not all bad.  Remember Pluto rules death and rebirth and the rebuilding that follows Pluto’s destruction may result in conditions and situations that are better then they were before.  More on the future later. 

    Let’s look at the effect that Pluto will have on some of the nations around the world and the Euro. Pluto is going to conjunct the UK Sun and the Euro (currency) Sun in February 2013, and oppose the US Sun the following year (2014). Before it does either of those things it's going to square the French Sun, the Chinese Sun and the German Sun which started this past  November and  go on through 2012. Events in China should have critical implications globally. The Chinese horoscope has her Sun being squared by transiting Pluto all 2012, a severe test on the leadership. Economic slowdown and internet led rebellions will be difficult to contain in all these countries. 

Uranus:

    Uranus moved into Aries March 11, 2011 the day of the Japanese earthquake.  Uranus is the sign of disruption and rebellion, and Aries is the sign of the individual.  Peoples around the world will be protesting for individual rights.  Occupy Wall Street began Sep 17, 2011. 

    Uranus will be in Aries for about 7 years, challenging us to act (Aries) in accordance with who we really are (Uranus). Aries is the sign of the warrior and Uranus is the planet of humanitarian aims. The changes happening in the world will accelerate.  The next 7 years will be full of disruptions and battles for independence. 

    Back in April 2011, I said that the US would not be immune to the protests.  In an interview, Michael Moore was very amused about the fact that corporations like Time Warner financed his movie, The Corporation, because they knew it would make them lots of money. They never thought that watching this movies would cause American to go out on the streets and protest.  He said that the Occupy Wall Street  movement looks like another American revolution.  From Michael Moore’s blog, “a majority of Americans are fearful and awaiting a resurgence of the economy so they can resume the life we've become habituated to.  When it becomes clear that our elected representatives-federal, state and local-are in cahoots with the thieves who wrecked the economy in 2008, and are now turning us over to them to do with as they please, the dodo will hit the blades.”

    The protests are happening around the world because it is a world transit; it affects everyone even though the immediate causes may be unique in each case.   The riots in London consisting of about  250,000 people, many throwing rocks at Star Bucks and MacDonald’s, indicates that in the West the  rebellion is anti-capitalism.   The riots in the Middle East are mostly against authoritarian rule. They both want freedom (Uranus in Aries) from oppression (Pluto). 

Our Future: 

Bad News

    The solar eclipse on May 20, 2012 looks very ominous for Israel.  This very same eclipse also negatively impacts the chart for Iran.  The June 4, 2012 eclipse hits the US ascendant (Sibly chart)

    This may mean that we get involved in this conflict. Pluto hit the US ascendant on 9/11.  Since Pluto will be squaring the US natal Sun/Saturn Square which will be exact in 2014, the US may suffer a major depression starting this year and for years to come and a war may be seen as a way out of this depression (also replicating the events in the 30’s). 

    Mars, the God of War, goes retrograde this month on the 23^rd until April 13, 2012.  The ancient astrologers believed that whoever attacked another during Mars retrograde would be defeated. 

Good News

The choice to be optimistic is the most important political choice an individual can make -- Paul Gilding 

    I recently read a book entitled, The Great Disruption:  Why the Climate Crises Will Bring On the End of Shopping and the Birth of a New World by Paul Gilding.    He states

    “The now emerging failure of growth means our current model of social and economic progress is now in the messy and painful process of dying.  The only choices we get to make are how and when we change, not whether.  We have to redesign the economy, and with it much of our politics, personal expectations, and market, to fit in with the immovable physical reality of a finite planet.”         

    I used to give lectures on Voluntary Simplicity back in the mid nineties and I would cite a study by Donella Meadows called Limits to Growth, published in 1972.  I was so young and idealistic then, maybe not so young, but certainly not the cynical old Crone I am now.  I thought as soon as people learned that we are going to crash they would start to change.  But instead we went into denial and it will probably take a sudden crises before we wake up.  And according to Gilding, we will do extraordinary things when the crises hits.

    We will have the opportunity to recreate ourselves. I have seen changes happening, especially among the young. The people who will do well during 2012 will be those willing to let go of unnecessary material possessions, jobs that are just about amassing wealth and toxic lifestyles or relationships. Despite the challenges facing us as suggested by the aspects and eclipses, 2012 should be a year for great opportunities to those who are able to adapt to changing conditions. We also feel that conserving resources and leaving a smaller footprint on the earth would be wise and also liberating. 

    “Although the consumer sector and material goods would contract, the service and public sectors would expand dramatically. When we look at the world, we see a huge number of unmet needs: caring for elderly, restoring the environment, educating illiterate and unskilled youth, repairing decaying roads and infrastructure, providing health care, creating community markets and local enterprises, retrofitting the urban landscape for sustainability and many more. Because there are an enormous number of unmet needs, there are an equally large number of purposeful and satisfying jobs waiting to get done. There will be no shortage of employment opportunities in an Earth-friendly economy.”  Duane Elgin 

    I believe we are all connected to each other and to the earth.  So we have felt these changes coming for a long time.  Even those who were not aware of climate change or the future of the economy started setting up farmers markets, Community Supported Agriculture, recycling centers and other cooperative types of organizations and systems. Across the world there are cities and towns adopting sustainable practices, some joining the Transition towns movement.

    I am now seeing extraordinary things happening in my own community. This is the time that grassroots efforts will probably carry far greater impact than ever before.  Here in Greenbelt, Maryland we have community bio intensive gardens and are planning orchards of nuts and fruit.  Two hundred forty households have signed up for wind energy to date.  We are also setting up a barter network.  We have created a partnership to  build solar panels for one of our local churches and plan on more of these types of partnerships.  We have had workshops on dehydrating food, sprouting, weatherizing our homes and soap making.  We have groups of people meeting in circles discussing and acting on ideas about voluntary simplicity, resilience, and climate action.

     I think the best thing we can do is to support these kinds of programs and try not to get dragged intothe negativity and despair that is all around us because our old world is ending.  Hopefully, we can change to a resilient, sustainable society without too much upheaval.

*Square Aspect:  A tense 90 degree aspect between two planets, they are not harmonious so it is difficult to get them to work together. 

**Cardinal signs :  Aires, Capricorn, Cancer and Libra are the signs that bring dynamic disruptive change especially if in a challenging aspect to other cardinal signs.  Cardinal signs denote pivotal moments in history.   It is life giving energy that invigorates, strengthens and vitalizes activities.

 

 

January 2012 Forecast

The dreaded 2012 is here!  I am reading all sorts of dire predictions about the end of the world. But I don’t think so! Most of these are based on the Mayan prophecies.  I think what happened is that the Mayans loved making calendars and had a wall listing dates (the Mayan long count) and when they got to the bottom of the wall, they ran out of space and stopped posting dates. They ended at the date of Dec 21, 2012 which has caused a panic, especially among astrologers and their readers.  That is my theory, but I may be wrong. 

I am reminded of one of The Simpsons episodes where the rapture (or as some of us call it, the rupture) occurs. As the true believers are floating up to heaven amidst total chaos, a Buddhist monk is standing with water rising around him saying – “I guess I was wrong, truth isn’t relative”.  That could also be me when the asteroid hits, I’ll think, OOPHS! I was wrong about my theory and it’s too late to retract my newsletter. 

2012 will be a pivotal year, though, and we can already see the changes. I think what Joanna Macy calls The Great Turning is occuring.  What we have been experiencing and will experience in the future is a move from an Industrial Growth Society to a Sustainable Society.  The change will be similar in scope to the time when we went from an Agricultural Society to an Industrial Society.  It doesn’t happen overnight and it isn’t a smooth transition. I will write more about the astrological signature of these changes in a future article.  Stay tuned.

Mars turns retrograde on the 24^th.  Before that all planets are moving direct.  A good time to start a new project. 

Dates to Watch: 

Jan 1 – Mercury Square Mars.  Everyone around you is speaking their mind today.  It may not be pretty, don’t join in the rants.  Stay cool. 

Jan 9 – Full Moon at 18 Cancer at 2:20 AM.  This Full Moon is in a flowing aspect to Mars in Virgo.  A good time to make changes in your environment -- organize and clean.  This Full Moon shines a light on your family and your home. 

Jan 12 – Sun Trine Mars.  You have plenty of energy today and it flows in a harmonious way.  You can get a lot done without stepping on any toes. 

Jan 13 – Venus trine Saturn.   You may hear from a friend that you have not seen in a long time or some of the friendships you have may deepen. 

            Mercury Conjunct Pluto.   Your natural paranoia can get totally out of control today.  “Why is she looking at me that way – what is that person whispering about me – are the aliens about to land?”  You need to sign up for some cognitive therapy especially if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) or the ascendant at 7 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer. 

            Venus Conjunct Neptune.  Maybe your paranoia is not so misplaced, this aspect means that your friends may be keeping secrets from you; someone IS talking about you behind your back.  Or you could be totally deluded.  Watch out if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 29 degrees of Aquarius or Leo.

Jan 14 – Venus enters Pisces until February 8, 2012.  You get really mushy and cloying during this period and it is hard for someone like me with a touch of Aspergers to tolerate, so cut it out. 

Jan 19 – Sun Square Saturn at 29 Capricorn and Libra.  Time to get down to work, you have been goofing off since Christmas.  Today the boss will clamp down on you – “get off facebook, stop the internet shopping and dig into the pile of paper on your desk.”

 Jan 20 – Sun enters Aquarius until February 19.  I like it when the Sun is in Aquarius, it means that the Sun will enter my first house and that is the beginning of a new year for me.  When the Sun is in the sign of your ascendant you can begin a new cycle of growth.  It’s your New Year.  So this is a New Year for Aquarian Rising types. 

Jan 22 – Sun Square Jupiter.  You need to exhibit some self control today.  I know you want to go shopping, buy a lottery ticket and stop for some fast food and ice cream, but don’t do it.  Wait one day till this is over.  You probably won’t listen to me if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 1 degree of Aquarius or Taurus. 

Jan 23 – New Moon 2:30 AM at 2 Aquarius.  This is the beginning of a new circle.  Send out your intentions for what sort of creative projects you want to accomplish this month.  Aquarius is the sign of innovation and unusual, eccentric, out of the box ideas. 

            Mercury Trine Mars.  Good aspect for writing.  You are able to get your point across today. 

            Mars turns retrograde at 23 Virgo until Apr 14, 2012.  All of those laid back, sweet, yoga and organic food loving Virgos will be over stimulated during this period. They may even get angry, Horrors! 

Jan 27 – Mercury Square Saturn at 29 degrees of Capricorn/Libra.  You can butt heads with your boss or parent today.  They are trying to tell you what to do and you come back with an acerbic, sardonic, sarcastic remark. That really doesn’t help. 

                        Mercury enters Aquarius until Feb 13, 2012.  There are no restrictions on your thinking and speaking during this period.  Just let it fly -- the more outrageous the better. 

Jan 28 – Mercury Square Jupiter at 2 degrees Aquarius and Taurus.  Today, instead of your conversation being clever you are just totally obnoxious.  No one wants to hear about your great exploits and how wonderful you are.

PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023.  This month Pluto will move from 7 to 8 degrees of Capricorn. Everyone is feeling the urge to purge and to find his or her truth.  Profound changes will be felt especially by those with Sun, Ascendant or personal planets at 7 or 8 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer.

A Myth for Capricorn

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPRICORN (Dec 21 to Jan 20)

Compared to Sagittarians who can be thought of as butterflies, Capricorns are groundhogs. Capricorn is an earth sign so they go sniffing around on the ground and rarely look up. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn who can be a glum guy. Being a Saturn type myself, I kinda like Caps even though we can be grouchy, morose, and soul crushing type people.  I find I can relax around a Cap because I know they are out there worrying for me about the food supply, the nuclear plants in earthquake zones, the destruction of the rain forest and global warming.  They say worry doesn’t help a situation but I think it does.  I just want to have a break once in a while and I can do that and let the other Saturn types worry for me. 

The depressed economy has really put the Caps in a sad state.  They felt safe having money in the bank and now the banks can’t be trusted.  They are motivated by fear, especially about not being materially secure.  They need to feel safe. 

They are very sweet and responsible people and we would not have a civilization without them.  Someone has to take care of business while the rest of the people such as the Geminis, Sadges, Aquarians  and Pisces are out there being irresponsible, flakey, and  running around dreaming of Utopia. 

If you know a Cap, give them a birthday present, they deserve it.

Uranus the sky god was married to Gaia the earth.  He was unhappy with all his children,  and as soon as they were born he would push them back into the womb.  Gaia appealed to her unborn children for help. Saturn volunteered to slay the father.   When he grew up he struck his father in the groin, and took over as chief of the gods.  Saturn then was told that a child of his would dethrone him, so when he married Rhea, he swallowed his children as they were born.  At Jupiter’s birth, Rhea tricked Saturn by giving him a rock in swaddling clothes to swallow.  When grown, Jupiter forced his father to disgorge the rock along with the other five siblings.  Saturn then fled by sea to Italy, where he was welcomed ashore by Janus the king. Saturn presented Janus with a set of laws, agriculture, and the wisdom to see forward and backward.  Janus became known as a shrewd and wise leader, and in this way, Saturn brought the golden age to Italy. 

Capricorn Traits:  Capricorns are born with an acute sense of responsibility.  They take on tasks that others would refuse.  Capricorns often get in battles with authority figures, then swallow their creativity out of fear.  When they are middle aged, the creativity flowers.  They are at their best when they are older and can help the world by bringing order and civilization.  Saturn gifts are a truly serene acceptance of reality, a compassionate recognition of one’s limits and a capacity to contain one’s difficult experiences without being torn apart by them.

December 2011 Forecast

This month we have three planets turning direct and a Total Lunar Eclipse. 

Uranus turns direct on Dec 10 at 1 degree of Aries. Uranus represents the freedom urge.  It is the planet of extremes and sudden change.  It destroys the old and allows room for the new.  During the Uranus retrograde period from July 9, 2011 until Dec 10, Uranus in the sign of Aries --- the sign of the forceful pioneering spirit -- we have seem clamoring for freedom all over the globe.  When Uranus turns direct, we will see some positive outcome from these protests.

Mercury  turns direct on December 13 at 4 Sagittarius. Mercury is the power of communication; it rules intelligence, reasoning and gathering facts.  During the retrograde period which started on Nov 24, 2011, plans may have had to be changed. Projects put on hold and delays in all business matters.  After Dec 13, communications and plans will forge ahead. 

Jupiter turns direct on December 25 at 0 Taurus.  Jupiter is larger than all the other planets combined.  That is why he rules expansion and excess of all types.  He was retrograde since August 30, 2011.  During that retrograde period, we didn’t feel very inspired, charitable or jovial.  Now we can move ahead with optimism. 

If you have any personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or the ascendant at these degrees in your natal chart, be ready for the affairs related to your personal planet to get a boost and move forward.

On Dec 10, we have a Total Solar Eclipse at 18 Gemini, the same day as the Uranus during direct.  If you have planets at 18 Gemini/Sagittarius or 1 Aries/Libra, be ready for a turbulent couple of days. 

After the 25th of December there are no planets moving retrograde until January 23, 2012.  The Gods and Goddesses are out in their full regalia, zipping along and giving us a clear pathway for our goals and relationships.  Take advantage of this time.

Dates to Watch: 

Dec 1 – Venus Conjunct Pluto at 6 degrees of Capricorn.  A good day to fall in love with a Scorpio, if you can handle it.  Today we get really intense and obsessive about all of our close personal relationships.  Let go, just a tiny bit, or you will scare them away. 

Dec 2 – Sun Square Mars at 10 degrees of Sagittarius and Virgo.  Use moderation and restraint today.  You may have bottled up anger that could come bursting out in your relationships.  Try to channel it into some hard physical work or exercise. 

Dec 4 – Sun Conjunct Mercury at 12 degrees of Sagittarius.  A good time to concentrate on the details, do some writing, get some important research done. 

            Mercury Square Mars at 10 Sagittarius and Virgo. You love nothing better today than a good debate or argument.  You feel you can’t lose that you are really brilliant and to the point, but in reality you are nothing but a bully. 

Dec 5 – Venus Trine Mars at 11 Capricorn and Virgo.  This is a lovely aspect, Aphrodite and Eros is doing a kinda dance.  The real secret of this aspect is in the interpretation of “kinda”. 

Dec 10 – Total Lunar Eclipse at 18 Gemini.  Please check my report on this eclipse on my blog here. 

            Uranus Direct at 1 degree of Aries.  When Uranus appears to stop in the sky and change motion, it can create all kinds of turbulence in our inner and outer lives.  Locate which house in your natal chart contains 1 degree of Aries.  This is the area that will be upset for a few days before and after this date. 

Dec 13 – Mercury turns direct at 4 Sagittarius.  Finally Mercury is moving direct.  The end of those frustrating delays and computer glitches. 

Dec 18 – Venus Square Saturn at 28 degrees of Capricorn and Libra.  This is a time when relationships cool off. He says he loves you, but you don’t really care. 

Dec 22 – Sun enters Capricorn until January 20, 2012.  This is the cold, dark time of the year.  But Saturn (Capricorn) and Pluto (Scorpio) types love it.  We can hide and no one will bother us especially if the snowed is piled high outside our door. 

            Sun Trine Jupiter at 0 degrees of Capricorn and Taurus.  A very lucky transit.  If this aspect impacts your natal chart, play the lottery. 

            Sun Square Uranus at 0 degrees of Capricorn and Aries.  Something totally out of the blue can happen today, so maybe you will win the lottery. 

Dec 24 – New Moon at 2 Capricorn.  A time to set your intention for the next month.  What do you want to bring in.  This moon is in the sign of Capricorn ruling property, banking, and your career. 

Dec 25 – Jupiter turns direct at 0 Taurus.  Finally, Jupiter moving direct is great.  All those plans for expansion in business and your personal life can now get moving in a positive way. 

Dec 29 – Sun conjunct Pluto at 8 degrees of Capricorn.  This is the aspect of domination and control.  Just make sure you are the controller and not the controlee. 

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS 

JUPITER is in Taurus this month and will stay in Taurus until June 2012. This month Jupiter is retrograde and is moving from 1 to 0 degrees of Taurus. On December 15, Jupiter will station and start moving direct. Now is a time to re-evaluate our belief systems especially if you have the ascendant, Sun or Moon between 5 and 1 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio. This is a time to plan your future in a no-nonsense practical way. 

SATURN is in Libra (structure, foundation, and responsibility) until Oct 2012. This month Saturn is moving from 26 to 28 degrees of Libra.  If you have the Ascendant or any personal planets at 26 or 28 degrees of Libra in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. Libra rules relationships of all kinds and Saturn may ask you to take on more responsibility for how your relationships work. 

URANUS is in Aries and will stay in Aries until 2018.  This month Uranus is retrograde and will stay at 1 degree of Aries all month.  On Dec 10 Uranus will station and start to move direct.. Wanting freedom and a need to make radical changes will be felt by those with the Ascendant, Sun and personal planets at 1 degree of Aries.  I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”.  If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go on a long vacation, move, or make some major changes in your life.
 
NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is stationing direct this month and will move from 28 to 29 degrees of Aquarius this month. Neptune will move into Pisces in February 2012 and will stay in Pisces until 2026.  A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 28 to 29 degrees of Aquarius or late Aquarius ascendant types.  For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights.

A Myth for Sagittarius

The Sun entered Sagittarius on Nov 22 and will be in Sagittarius until December 21.

All of you early Sadge’s out there -- born between Nov 22 and Nov 27 -- will have the Solar Eclipse of Nov 25 right on top of your Sun.  This can be a good thing.  This is the time to get rewarded for your achievements.  This eclipse will give you the confidence to go after your hearts desire.   For more on this eclipse, read my article here on my blog.

Sadge is one of the most optimistic of signs.  The ruler of Sadge is Jupiter, the big, fat, happy planet.  When I get stuck in my dark, little, Saturn tunnel, Sadge comes along and opens up vistas and possibilities I never thought of before. Their view of the world is boundless.

Icarus and his father Daedalus were imprisoned in the labyrinth.  Daedalus made wings so they could escape. Icarus ran around the prison wanting to leave before the wings were ready.  Finally they were ready, and Icarus fastened them on with wax.  Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, because the wax would melt and not to fly too close to the earth, because there wouldn’t be enough wind.  The power and wonder of flying overcame Icarus. He flew as high as he could.  It was too close to the sun.  His wings melted off,  and he fell into the sea.

ECLIPSES OF NOV 25 AND DEC 10, 2011

We have a Solar Eclipse on Nov 25 and a Lunar Eclipse on December 10. 

The ancients believed that during an eclipse, the "mighty will fall". We have had so many mighty falling that I can’t assign them all to this eclipse.  In Europe this year we had the mighty of Ireland, Portugal, Greece, and Spain gone. Not to mention the mighty of the Middle East I think the upheaval has a lot to do with other astrological cycles we are going through right now, especially the Uranus Square Pluto revolutionary transit.  But that is a subject is for another newsletter. 

Back to the eclipses.  They appear often in the mythology of different cultures most often as symbols of obliteration, fear, and the overthrow of the natural order of things. Eclipses were the great omens of fated, large-scale events. The word eclipse comes from a Greek word meaning "abandonment." Quite literally, an eclipse was seen as the Sun abandoning the earth.

Every six months, eclipses show the turning points in our lives. They indicate what we are to accomplish for the following year to 3 years. They bring in news and events that are sometimes "out of the blue". Time seems to speed up. In a positive sense, eclipses can clear what may obscure the way forward. Remember that the key words for eclipses are emphasis and crisis.  Eclipses are contrary to the status quo. If impacted by one of these eclipses, your life will not run on the same track it has been on. But that can be a good thing.

The eclipse of the Sun has been traditionally viewed with dread over the ages, as the Sun seems to disappear from the sky. It gets dark in the middle of the day and it seems as if something dreadful is about to happen.   Solar Eclipses tend to relate to sudden events that disrupt our day to day functioning; they are the crisis that seems to come out of nowhere and that suddenly demand all of our conscious attention and focus. They tend to stir things up on a physical and conscious level much more than Lunar Eclipses.

The ancients believed that eclipses that align with the Dragon’s Head (North Node of the Moon) are beneficial and bring a rush of energy and things into your life.  Eclipses that align with the Dragon’s Tail (South Node of the Moon), show loss or where sacrifice or service to others is required.  It is about giving back and practicing compassion. 

Another way to figure out whether or not an eclipse will be positive or challenging, is to look at the aspects that the eclipse is making to other planets in the sky, and also to the planets they are aspecting in your natal chart.

Partial Solar Eclipse of Nov 25 at 2 degrees of Sagittarius. Dragon’s Head 

We are in a long series of Sagittarius/Gemini that ends in May 2013. All of you Gemini/Sagittarians out there are in for a lot of changes. I was told by an astrologer that the effects of a Solar Eclipse can come in exactly one month before it appears.  I have been checking out this theory and it seems to work.

A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon’s shadow passes very close to the earth, but is not total.  This eclipse is in the sign of Sagittarius which rules foreign countries, the law and higher education. 

If one of your personal planets is being “hit” by a Solar Eclipse, look back to see what happened 19 years ago. The eclipses repeat at the same degree of the zodiac every 19 years.   A Solar Eclipse can bring an ending in the direction in our life and open a door to another. Remember, New Moon/Solar Eclipses are always very powerful times to meditate. Send out your intention of what you want to manifest over the next six months. A Solar Eclipse always occurs during a New Moon and New Moons are important because they bring in new, fresh energy.  

 This eclipse is in a trine to Uranus which means this should be a positive eclipse with themes of Uranus (change).  This can be a positive time for making the changes we need to make in our life especially if you have personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) or the ascendant at 0 to 4 degrees of Sagittarius or Gemini.

This eclipse is in a trine to Uranus at 1 degree Aries.  This is a time when we could make positive changes in our life.  In President Obama’s chart, this eclipse is in his 10^th house, his role as commander in chief, and also opposes his Moon in the fourth house.  The moon is the most personal planet.  He could be going through some emotional turmoil and make some important positive changes having to do with his role in the world and also with his personal relationships in his home. 

Lunar Eclipse at 18 Gemini/Sagittarius on December 10.  Dragons Tail 

This is a time of letting go of old emotional habit patterns and letting go of the people that you have become dependent on. This Eclipse affects two signs; Gemini and Sagittarius.  The sign of Gemini rules writing, teaching, lectures, the media and all forms of communications.  We may see the death of a renowned writer or professor.  There will be more news about who owns information.  Sagittarius rules foreign countries, the law and higher education. This eclipse could bring up more news items about how we communicate with foreign countries. What laws we have to put in place to protect information. 

This eclipse is in a square to Mars at 13 Virgo.  This eclipse could increase the sabre rattling that is going on in the world.  This eclipse also conjuncts Mars in the US chart in the 7^th house of open enemies. It could be our sabre that is rattling. 

This eclipse affects Silvio Berlusconi, the Prime Minister of Italy.  His Jupiter in the 3^rd house is exactly in the same degree as this eclipse. Those who don’t know astrology really well think that Jupiter only brings good things.  Jupiter is expansive and excessive and it can cause you to expand right out of where you are, in this case, his job.  The eclipse in the 3^rd and 9^th house could mean that the news media (3^rd) and other countries (9) were the cause of his downfall. 

The Lunar Eclipse gives us opportunities to break out of our current cycles and move on to a different level.  A Lunar Eclipse can make us more aware of our cycles and patterns, and our unconscious motivations. Lunar Eclipses can bring up old memories and feelings.  As a full Moon, a Lunar Eclipse tends to bring completion or endings. On a Lunar Eclipse something will end and on a Solar Eclipse something will begin. A Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to break habits or eliminate socially conditioned patterns of thought and behavior that stand in the way of self realization. 

Full moon eclipses can bring things to completion that you have been working on. You can finally make decisions about issues that you have been thinking about. The Sun opposite the Moon, lights up the Moon and brings previously unexamined areas of your life into awareness. 

Lunar Eclipses are more emotional than Solar Eclipses.  Because a Lunar Eclipse only happens on a full moon, two houses in your natal chart will be affected.  

An eclipse tends to emphasize matters related to the house it falls in on your natal chart or what planets it conjuncts, or opposes.  The areas ruled by the houses or planets will demand more attention, thought, energy, and time from you, at least until the next Eclipse. Eclipses open doors and invite us to come in, illuminating and stimulating areas of our lives that need our attention. 

Look for the houses in your chart that contains 0 to 4 degrees of Sagittarius or Gemini for the impact of the Solar Eclipse of November 25, look for the house containing 15 to 21 degrees of Gemini and Sagittarius for the impact of the Lunar Eclipse of Dec 10.  To see a brief list of items covered by the different houses in your birth chart click here

November 2011 Forecast

 The Big News this month is the Arab Spring and the Occupy Wall Street protests. 

The official start of the Arab Spring was Saturday December 18, 2010 after a young street vendor in Tunisia set himself on fire the day before, and died of his injuries on January 4 2011. The Arab Spring is still ongoing today.  I see eclipses as triggers to these types of longer cycles. 

Back in December 2010, I wrote about the importance of the eclipse of Dec 21, 2010 at 29 Gemini.  As I wrote --This eclipse was powerful because it fell on the winter solstice, but also because Uranus and Jupiter was in a square configuration to this eclipse suggesting something completely out of the blue will come up. Also, this eclipse was in a trine to Neptune, which is a time when we will feel very idealistic. This eclipse took place during retrograde Mercury which represents young people. Because it is in the last degree of the sign, it resolves old issues. The end degree of a sign signifies a time of transition. This was a Dragon’s Tail Lunar eclipse.  This is a time of letting go of old emotional habit patterns and letting go of the people and institutions that you have become dependent on.

 The eclipse triggered the Pluto-Uranus square that most astrologers feel is the backdrop of the protests happening in the Middle East and now in our country. The Pluto-Uranus Square will be with us until 2018 or so. 

Jonathan Pearl (Find him on Facebook) sees the Occupy Wall Street activity in terms of the movement of the fixed star Regulus from Leo into Virgo.  Regulus entered Leo in 156 BC. Pealr says the precession of the stars through the sign is a 26,000 year cycle, but the date Solar Fire gives for Regulus into Virgo is 9/16/2011.  Occupy began on 9/17/201. Regulus in Leo has to do with power, kings, dictators, rulers and CEO’s. Moving out of Leo into Virgo means Leo style leadership, domination and rule by might ,is shifting into the sign of service, resourcefulness, technology, skill and duty, It seems that we are all called to a service of some kind for helping shape a better the world.

Mercury goes retrograde on the 24^th of November until December 13.  Neptune moves direct on the 9^th. 

Dates to Watch:

Nov 1 – Mercury Square Neptune at 28 Scorpio/Aquarius.  Not a good time to figure out who is lying to who in that squirrelly office you work in.  Everyone is in a fog and you can’t tell who did what to who. You are especially confused if you have any personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) or the Ascendant at 28 Scorpio/Aquarius. 

Nov 2 – Venus enters Sagittarius until Nov 26. Venus wants to go outside of that solid, committed, smothering relationship you are in right now.  You may be tied at the hip, but it is time to untie.

             Mercury enters Sagittarius until Jan 9, 2012.  Everyone will be talking at the same time, telling stories, exaggerating and promising way more than they can deliver.  Don’t lend money to that cute slick guy you just mett who really wants to buy you a big diamond, but is short on cash. 

Nov 3 – Venus Trine Uranus. – Go to a museum and see beautiful paintings. Friendships unfold pleasantly. 

            Mercury Trine Uranus – You are vivacious and witty, the life of the party.  Also, good for mental work such as writing. 

Nov 7 – Mars Opposite Neptune at 38 Leo/Aquarius.  Put your energy into manifesting a desire. Don’t try to pull a fast one on anyone.  This is the aspect of the Scammer. 

Nov 9 – Neptune Moves Direct.  Neptune is on his way to entering Pisces on February 4, 2012. That is the sign Neptune rules.  Be quiet today and get in touch with what your intuition is telling you to manifest in the coming months. 

Nov 10 – Full Moon at 18 Taurus. This brings the culmination of things started at the New Moon of Oct 26. 

            Mars enters Virgo until July 3, 2012.  All of you Sun in Virgo and Ascendant in Virgo will get your motors running now.  You will wonder where all that energy is coming from.  You won’t be satisfied being a couch potato anymore.  Also, look to the house of your natal chart that contains Virgo, this area of your life will be mighty active during this period.  For the meaning of the houses, see Meaning of Houses 

Nov 16 – Mars Trine Jupiter at 3 degrees of Virgo/Taurus. Put this to good use. Progress is made, go on a trip. 

Nov 20 – Sun Square Neptune at 28-29 Scorpio/Aquarius.  You just feel like kicking back for awhile.  Those of you with personal planets at 28-29 Scorpio/Aquarius/Taurus are so laid back you look comatose. 

Nov 22 – Sun enters Sagittarius.  A good month to expand your life, get out of your rut and meet new people. 

Nov 23 – Sun Trine Uranus. A day for entertainment and fun.  Have a party. 

            Mars Trine Pluto at 5 Virgo/Capricorn.  I know good financial news is hard to come by now, but if you have personal planets or the ascendant at 5 Virgo, Capricorn or Taurus, you may be in for a good day money-wise.

Nov 24 – Thanksgiving Day 

            Mercury turns retrograde.  If you haven’t done so at this time, put off buying Christmas presents until after December 13.  A good time to revise your plans. 

Nov 25 Solar Eclipse at 2 Sagittarius. All of you with personal planets or the ascendant at 2 Sagittarius or Gemini will have a part of your life highlighted at this time.  This Eclipse is conjunct Uranus, so expect the unexpected.  I will write a separate report on this eclipse and the one in Dec this month. 

Nov 26 – Venus Enters Capricorn until Dec 20.  No more fun and games, this guy is serious.  You may talk to some friends at work and you will “do lunch” and discuss who has the biggest salary at work and who will get promoted. Pretty dull stuff. Don’t invite me. 

            Venus Square Uranus.  There is one wack job in your town and you found him.  How do you do that? And why?  You are especially prone to the nutters if you have personal planets at 1 degree of Aries or Capricorn. 

Nov 27 - Venus Trine Jupiter. A much better day to get into a relationship.  This one will be with a lawyer, professor or a foreigner.  Look for 2 degrees of Capricorn or Taurus in your birth chart. 

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS 

JUPITER is in Taurus this month and will stay in Taurus until June 2012. This month Jupiter is retrograde and is moving from 5 to 1 degrees of Taurus.  Now is a time to re-evaluate our belief systems especially if you have the ascendant, Sun or Moon between 5 and 1 degrees of Taurus or Scorpio. This is a time to plan your future in a no-nonsense practical way. 

SATURN is in Libra (structure, foundation, and responsibility) until Oct 2012. This month Saturn is moving from 22 to 26 degrees of Libra.  If you have the Ascendant or any personal planets at 22 or 26 degrees of Libra in your natal chart, you may be in store for some hard lessons around the issues ruled by the planet and the house the planet is in or rules. Libra rules relationships of all kinds and Saturn may ask you to take on more responsibility for how your relationships work. 

URANUS is in Aries and will stay in Aries until 2018.  This month Uranus is retrograde and will stay at 1 degree of Aries. Wanting freedom and a need to make radical changes will be felt by those with the Ascendant, Sun and personal planets at 1 degree of Aries.  I believe in “cooperating with the inevitable”.  If you have Uranus in a challenging aspect to your ascendant or personal planets, go on a long vacation, move, or make some major changes in your life.
 
NEPTUNE (creativity, sensitivity, escapism, dreams) is stationing direct this month and will stay at 28 degrees of Aquarius this month. Neptune will move into Pisces in February 2012 and will stay in Pisces until 2026.  A lack of focus, a sense of drifting or an inability to see a betrayal or disappointment until it's too late can be experienced by those of you with the Sun or Personal Planets at 28 degrees of Aquarius or late Aquarius ascendant types.  For the enlightened out there, Neptune can also bring artistic, musical, creative expression, increased dreams and spiritual insights. 

PLUTO is in Capricorn until 2023.  This month Pluto will move from 5 to 6 degrees of Capricorn. Everyone is feeling the urge to purge and to find his or her truth.  Profound changes will be felt especially by those with Sun, Ascendant or personal planets at 5 or 6 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer.

A Myth for Scorpio

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCORPIO  (Oct 23 to Nov 22) 

I know I pick on Scorpio’s a lot because they are tough and they scare me.  But I really need them in my life.  I suffer from Saturnitis which you may not have heard of but it is a genetic disease inherited from my family. It’s not fatal but most of the time it feels like it is.  Some of the symptoms are gloom, worry, remorse, regret, depression and guilt. My husband tells me that now that he has got to know me really well, he has discovered that my mind is a dark and scary place.   I have found that the only people that can get me through all of this and contain these emotions and help me heal are those tough Scorpio Sun, Moon or Ascendant types.  Who better to deal with dark and scary places then Scorpios?  It is no accident that Halloween happens during the time of Scorpio. 

They are the strongest and most determined signs of the zodiac.  Being a fixed water sign, Scorpios are built for emotional endurance.  They can easily resist outside influences and are not easily swayed by other people.  They like to go their own way and make up their own mind. This tendency to stand firm makes them loyal friends but dangerous and unforgiving enemies. (This is why I try not to pick on them too much in these articles). The most painful time in a Scorpio’s life is when they realize that the urge to maintain control over outer circumstances for personal gain no longer works.  Dependencies, beliefs and superstitions built around past experiences or a desire for power must be confronted. They must let go of the past.  Elimination, regeneration and sacrifice are the tests to help them transform. Scorpios are here for inner work, for regeneration and transformation of the Self in order for them to live out their purpose: healers of others.

Myth:  Inanna and Ereshkigal

Inanna, goddess of heaven, was very beautiful and lived on the surface of the earth.  She had a wicked sister, Ereshkigal, in the underworld, When Ereshkigal’s husband dies, Inanna wishes to attend  the funeral,  but she is warned not to go down to the underworld.  Inanna goes, but tells her maidservant that if she is not back within three days, to send someone to get her.  Inanna has to go through seven gates in the underworld.  At each gate, she has to strip something off that she is wearing.  She arrives naked in front of Ereshkigal and  bows before her.   Ereshkigal  kills Inanna and hangs her on  a meat hook to rot.  When Inanna does not return after three days, the maidservant goes to Inanna’s husband but he says, “I can't do anything, I am not powerful enough.”  Then the servant goes to Enki who is androgynous--tough but yielding, the god of water and wisdom.  Enki takes dirt from his fingernails and makes figures, which are called the mourners, and he sends them to Ereshkigal. Everyone laughs that he is sending these itty  bitty creatures to deal with the powerful Ereshkigal.  They are so small they slip into the underworld unseen.  They walk past Inanna  who is hanging on the wall.  They go to Ereshkigal and sit with her while she complains and mourns.  They mirror what she is feeling. They give her time and space to mourn.   After this, Ereshkigal is so pleased she offers to do them a favor.  They ask for Inanna back, and she agrees. Inanna comes to life and returns to the surface of the earth.  Inanna has to replace herself in the underworld and she picks her husband because he would not help her. 

Scorpio Traits: Part of Scorpio wants to stay on the surface of things.  Scorpios can live in their heads, but their real fate is to deal with underworld, taboo subjects in our society--the unconscious shadow material.  Their gift is to help others deal with this material, whether it is grief counseling or psychotherapy.  Scorpios understand that you must go down before you go up, and that real transformation requires this journey. It is important for Scorpios to be prepared and to keep their heads when they make the journey.  They understand that we all need to go deep into ourselves and strip ourselves of our baggage--our ego, our career, and identify--for the purpose of true transformation. We must honor this powerful force that strips us. Something must die for us to be reborn. Scorpios have great depth and healing energy. The traditional masculine energy is no help in dealing with the underworld.  After they have made their own underworld journey, Scorpios can start their real healing, and can help others.  They can be firm in meting out justice.
